Ten to twelve days links Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Udaipur without spending every day in the car; our Rajasthan Grand Tour takes twelve and adds Pushkar. A week covers Jaipur and two other cities, as the six-day Royal Rajasthan Circuit does with Jodhpur and Udaipur. With three or four days, choose one place: Jaisalmer's desert, Ranthambore's safaris or Udaipur's lakes.

October to March. Days are warm and nights cool; in January, nights average about 8–10°C in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. April to June is very hot, with May averaging over 40°C by day. The July–September monsoon falls mostly on the east and south, around Jaipur and Udaipur, while the western desert stays far drier. Fair dates can decide a trip's timing too. Ranthambore National Park is open for safaris from October to June and closes through the monsoon. Zones, timings and permits are set by the Rajasthan Forest Department, and booking ahead is advised, so we reserve permits once your dates are firm. Most trips fly into Jaipur (JAI), which has domestic and some international flights, or start in Delhi, about three and a half to five hours from Jaipur by road. Udaipur's airport, about 25 km from the city, and Jodhpur's, about 5 km from the centre, have domestic flights, so a loop can end there instead of driving back to Jaipur. Jaisalmer also has a civil airport with domestic flights.

Far enough to plan around. Jaipur to Pushkar is about 145 km, Pushkar to Jodhpur about 186 km, Jodhpur to Jaisalmer about 286 km and Jodhpur to Udaipur about 257 km; Sawai Madhopur, the town for Ranthambore, is about 167 km from Jaipur. We drive the long legs in the cooler hours and break them with stops, such as the Jain temples at Ranakpur on the way to Udaipur.

Yes. The six-day Golden Triangle Tour spends a night in Agra for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal and two in Jaipur; Tiger Safari and Taj Mahal adds three nights at Ranthambore; the North India Classic Tour continues through Udaipur and Jodhpur to Varanasi and Rishikesh. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so we plan the Agra day around it.

Yes, at the right pace. The Rajasthan family tour suits children about eight and older, especially teenagers, with a camel ride to a desert camp and a folk evening, over nine to twelve days. Children from about six manage the slower Golden Triangle with kids better; for toddlers, a gentler region such as Kerala usually suits more. Avoid April to June with children.

Both move with the Hindu calendar. The Pushkar Fair, a camel and livestock fair, runs for about a week in October or November; the Khatu Shyamji fair in Sikar district lasts about ten days in February or March and draws very large crowds.
