The people who show you India
A guide is the single biggest variable in an India trip. Experience My India works with a panel of 500+ local guides across the country — people from the places they show you — and every one of them is checked before they meet a traveller.
Why a real local guide matters
- First-hand, not researched — a local guide is telling you about the city they grew up in, and you hear the difference in the first ten minutes.
- They know when, not just where — which hour the light is right, which day the temple is impossible, when the market is worth walking.
- The turning you would have missed — the courtyard behind the main gate, the workshop still working, none of it hidden, just unmarked.
- A voice you can follow — being guided in your own language is the difference between understanding a place and nodding politely at it for six hours.
- Someone who is accountable — a named person, known to us and checked before your trip.
- A person, not a service — the best day of most India trips is the one where a guide stopped guiding and started talking.
How we select our guides
- Local first: we look for guides from the destination itself, in many cases families who have shown visitors their region for generations.
- Checked before they meet you: every guide is checked for reliability and conduct before they reach a trip, alongside the stays and vehicles on the same itinerary.
- Reviewed trip by trip: guides are reviewed against real traveller feedback after departures, not signed off once.
- Described only by what we can prove: a profile carries what can be checked and nothing else. Where a guide holds a formal licence, the number is shown and named; where they do not, we say experienced, because that is what is true.
The honest state of our guide bench
Experience My India works with a panel of 500+ local, third-generation guides across the country. We have not yet published individual guide profiles here — no guide gets a page until we have a verified fact pack (name, home city, languages, years guiding, specialities) and their written consent to publish it. Rather than invent guides to fill this page, we are leaving the bench honestly empty until real, consented profiles are ready.
What a published profile will carry
- Name and home city
- Owned photograph
- Languages spoken
- Years guiding and tours led
- Specialities and what they genuinely know about
- First-person introduction
- Real traveller reviews
- Recorded consent to publish
