All of Uttar PradeshFrequently asked questions
What time are the Ram Mandir's aartis, and how do I attend one?
The temple trust lists three aartis you can attend with a pass: Mangal Aarti before dawn, Shringar Aarti in the early morning and Shayan Aarti at night. The passes are free and reserved on the trust's website, as are passes for timed darshan through the day, with a break around midday. The trust changes timings from time to time, so we check them before you travel.
What is Deepotsav, and is it worth timing a trip for?
Deepotsav is Ayodhya's Diwali festival, held by Uttar Pradesh's tourism department on Choti Diwali, the day before Diwali: lakhs of earthen lamps are lit, with a staged Ramlila, a grand aarti and a heritage walk. Diwali falls in October or November, so the date moves each year. It is worth the crowds if you love festivals; if a quiet darshan matters more, avoid the Kartik festival weeks around it. Either way, book well ahead.
Can I join one of Ayodhya's parikramas?
Yes. Pilgrims walk three: the Antargrahi, short enough for one day, from a dip in the Saryu through Ram Ghat and Sita Kund to Kanak Bhawan; the Panchkoshi, a 16 km circuit that starts at Chakratirth; and the Chaturdashkoshi, 45 km, walked on Akshay Navami and finished the same day. The longer ones draw big crowds at the Kartik fairs in October and November. At other times your guide can walk part of a route with you.
Is a day trip from Lucknow enough?
For the Ram Mandir and Hanuman Garhi, yes: the temple trust puts Ayodhya about 130 km from Lucknow, a few hours each way by car. But a day trip misses the early aartis and the ghats after dark, and festival queues can eat the time you have. A night in Ayodhya is the better plan, and the Ayodhya Ram Mandir tour can be planned with one.
What else is there to see beyond the Ram Mandir?
Hanuman Garhi, about 1 km from Ayodhya station, and Kanak Bhawan, north-east of the Ram Janmabhoomi, are the usual pair. The Nageshwarnath temple at Ram ki Paidi is said to have been founded by Ram's son Kush, and Guptar Ghat lies on the river to the west. Further out, Nandigram, 18 km south, is where Bharat is said to have kept Ram's sandals through his exile. Your local guide fits them around your darshan.
Can I combine Ayodhya with Prayagraj and Chitrakoot?
Yes, by road on the 6 Days Varanasi Ayodhya Tour with Prayagraj Chitrakoot. From Ayodhya it continues to Prayagraj for the Sangam, where the Ganga and the Yamuna meet, then to Chitrakoot, linked with Ram's years of exile, for the evening aarti on the Mandakini at Ramghat. Without Chitrakoot it becomes a five-day trip. See our Prayagraj travel guide and Varanasi tour packages.

Why go to Ayodhya
Ayodhya, on the Saryu in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is revered as Ram's birthplace and counted among Hinduism's seven holiest cities. Its Ram Mandir, consecrated on 22 January 2024, rises three floors to 161 feet, about 49 metres, at the top of its spire. Around it stand much older shrines: Hanuman Garhi, a fort-shaped temple where Hanuman is believed to have lived to guard the town, and Kanak Bhawan, held to be the palace given to Sita on her marriage. The Ram ki Paidi ghats line the river and are floodlit at night. Jain tradition holds that five Tirthankaras were born here. More in our Ayodhya travel guide.
How many days to give Ayodhya
One full day covers the Ram Mandir, Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan and the evening aarti on the Saryu, and the Ayodhya Ram Mandir tour is planned as a day or longer around the temple's hours. A night in the city lets you take an early-morning aarti pass, or see the temple twice. The 6 Days Varanasi Ayodhya Tour with Prayagraj Chitrakoot gives Ayodhya one night, after two in Varanasi and before a night each at Prayagraj and Chitrakoot, with darshan on the evening you arrive, if timings allow, and again the next morning.
When to go
Come between October and March if you can. From April to June the heat can reach 47°C, and in winter temperatures drop to about 10°C. The largest crowds come with Ram Navami, Ram's birthday, in March or April, and with Deepotsav, the festival of lamps the state's tourism department holds on the eve of Diwali, which falls on 8 November in 2026. Kartik, around October and November, also brings the parikrama fairs, when pilgrims walk circuits of the town. For a calmer darshan, plan around those weeks.
How to reach Ayodhya
The city's airport, Maharishi Valmiki International, opened at the end of 2023 about 10 km out and has flights from several major cities; the airports at Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj and Varanasi are the alternatives. The main railway stations are Ayodhya Dham and Ayodhya Cantt. The temple trust puts the city about 130 km from Lucknow, 160 km from Prayagraj, 200 km from Varanasi and 636 km from Delhi, so from Delhi a flight or train makes more sense than the drive.
What our Ayodhya tour packages include
Each Ayodhya package gives you a private vehicle and a local guide in the city. The Ram Mandir tour is timed to the temple's darshan hours and the visitor rules of the day, which we confirm before you travel. The six-day circuit adds a guide in Varanasi, a boat ride there and Ganga Aarti seating, with a private car and driver throughout. The temple trust charges nothing for darshan or aarti passes, so there is no ticket to buy. On the circuit, flights or trains to Varanasi, lunches and dinners are not included, as the package lists.
How to choose your Ayodhya tour package
Choose the Ayodhya Ram Mandir tour if Ayodhya itself is the purpose: a day from Lucknow, a stop on a longer route, or a night in the city for an early aarti. Choose the 6 Days Varanasi Ayodhya Tour with Prayagraj Chitrakoot for Uttar Pradesh's pilgrim circuit by road, with Varanasi's ghats, the Sangam at Prayagraj and Chitrakoot; it gives Ayodhya one night. If you want something in between, such as Ayodhya with Varanasi alone, or with Lucknow, a specialist plans it to order, since every trip is tailor-made.
