Frequently asked questions
Do you quote prices for Ayurveda treatments?
No — the resort's physician assesses and prices the programme directly after consultation, which is standard practice for genuine Ayurveda and not something we estimate in advance.
How many days does a real programme need?
Multi-day courses are standard, often a week or more for treatments like panchakarma; a single-day 'sampler' is possible but is not the same as a full therapeutic programme.
Are Ayurveda resorts only in Kerala?
Kerala has the strongest concentration and reputation for genuine, physician-led Ayurveda, though the practice exists elsewhere in India too.
What should I expect?
An initial consultation with a qualified physician, before any treatment is prescribed; A course over several consecutive days at one property, since many treatments build on each other; Dietary guidance alongside the physical treatments.
About Ayurveda resorts
Genuine Ayurveda resorts, concentrated mainly in Kerala, run physician-led treatment programmes prescribed after an on-arrival consultation rather than a menu of spa treatments you pick yourself — the distinction between the real and the packaged is the single most useful thing to understand before booking one.

Real Ayurveda versus a spa menu
A genuine Ayurveda programme starts with a consultation with the resort's in-house physician, who assesses your constitution and prescribes a course of treatments over several days — not a single massage picked off a menu. If a property offers only stand-alone treatments with no consultation, it is running a spa with Ayurveda branding rather than a genuine wellness programme.
What to expect from a genuine programme
- An initial consultation with a qualified physician, before any treatment is prescribed
- A course over several consecutive days at one property, since many treatments build on each other
- Dietary guidance alongside the physical treatments
- Quieter, more restful days than a normal sightseeing holiday — rest is part of the programme
When to go
Kerala's dry season, November to February, is most comfortable generally. Some traditional treatments, including panchakarma, are specifically recommended by Ayurveda practitioners for the monsoon months (roughly June to September); ask us if that timing interests you specifically.
