Frequently asked questions

What are the darshan timings at the Khatu Shyamji temple?

Rajasthan Tourism lists summer hours of 4.30 am to 12.30 pm and 4 to 10 pm, and winter hours of 5.30 am to 1 pm and 5 to 9 pm, so the temple closes for a few hours each afternoon. There are five aartis a day, from the Mangala aarti at opening to the Shayan aarti at night. The state's Devasthan Department gives slightly different hours, and times change on fair days, so your specialist confirms them for your date.

Which days are the busiest at Khatu Shyamji?

The Phalgun fair, in February or March, draws the largest crowds, and its Ekadashi most of all. Ekadashi days through the rest of the year also bring long queues, and the Devasthan Department lists Janmashtami, Jal Jhulani Ekadashi, Holi and Basant Panchami among the temple's other festivals. For a quieter darshan, tell your specialist, who will plan around these dates; if you would rather join the fair, expect a slow, crowded visit and book your stay early.

Can I visit Khatu Shyamji on a day trip from Delhi?

It can be done, but Khatu is far nearer Jaipur than Delhi, so a same-day return from Delhi means an early start and many hours on the road. The 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package breaks the journey with a night at Khatu or in Sikar, which also lets you attend both evening and morning darshan. If you prefer the train, Ringas Junction, 17 km from the temple, has direct services from Delhi.

Where is Salasar Balaji, and why is it paired with Khatu?

Salasar Balaji is a Hanuman temple in the town of Salasar, in Churu district, about 170 km from Jaipur by road. Rajasthan Tourism describes it as part of a pilgrim circuit with Khatu Shyamji and the Jeen Mata and Rani Sati temples, and notes that it is especially crowded at Chaitra Purnima and Ashvin Purnima. The 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package visits it on the second day, after morning darshan at Khatu.

Where can I stay near Khatu Shyamji?

Khatu has dharamshalas, charity lodges for pilgrims, which Rajasthan's Devasthan Department notes are available to visitors, and there are hotels in Sikar town. The 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package spends its night at Khatu or in Sikar, but the hotel is not part of the package as listed: the specialist adds one to your written quote, close to the temple if you want to be in the queue early for morning darshan.

What else is there to see in Sikar district?

Harshnath, 14 km from Sikar town, is a hilltop Shiva temple, largely in ruins, built according to an inscription in AD 973. Jeen Mata, about 30 km from Sikar, is a goddess temple that fills at Navratri, and Laxmangarh Fort, a similar distance away, looks down on its town. Sikar is one of Shekhawati's three districts, with Churu and Jhunjhunu, and the region's painted havelis, in towns such as Fatehpur and Ramgarh, can be added to a tailor-made trip.

About Sikar Tour Packages

Our Sikar trips are for pilgrims and families who want darshan at the Khatu Shyamji temple with their own transport, planned around the temple's hours and crowds: the Khatu Shyam Ji temple tour, a day trip from Jaipur, and the 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package, which adds Salasar Balaji. Each is private, tailor-made around your dates and confirmed with a written quote before you pay anything.

Why go to Sikar

Pilgrims come to Sikar district for the Khatu Shyamji temple, which Rajasthan Tourism counts among the state's most revered pilgrimage sites. At Khatu, about 80 km by road from Jaipur, Krishna is worshipped as Khatu Shyam. Rajasthan Tourism tells the story behind it: Barbarika, grandson of Bhima, gave his head to Krishna before the Mahabharata war and was promised that he would be worshipped as Shyam, one of Krishna's names. The white marble temple, first built in 1027 according to Rajasthan's Devasthan Department, has a prayer hall, the Jagmohan, painted with mythological scenes. Near it is the Shyam Kund, where the head is said to have been found and many pilgrims take a ritual dip, especially at the Phalgun fair.

How many days to give Sikar

One day is enough for Khatu from Jaipur. The Khatu Shyam Ji temple tour drives out, times darshan around the temple's hours and the day's crowds, leaves time to walk through the temple town, and then returns to Jaipur or carries on towards Delhi. From Delhi, two days is more comfortable: the 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package arrives for evening darshan, spends the night at Khatu or in Sikar, goes back to the temple for morning darshan and then visits Salasar Balaji before the drive home.

When to go

October to March is the comfortable season for the drive and the queue. Khatu lies between the IMD weather stations at Jaipur and Churu, where May days average 41 to 43°C and January nights 6 to 8°C, so plan a dawn darshan in summer and bring a warm layer for winter mornings. The great fair falls in Phalgun (Falgun), in February or March, with its main days on the tenth to twelfth days of the waxing moon, and Ekadashi days through the year also bring long queues. More on the seasons: best time to visit Rajasthan.

How to reach Sikar

Fly into Jaipur International Airport, about 80 to 90 km from the temple; Khatu is 80 km from Jaipur by road, and buses run between the two. The nearest railway station is Ringas Junction, about 17 km away. Ringas has direct trains from Delhi. During the fair, many pilgrims walk to Khatu from the Bhairuji temple at Ringas.

What our Sikar tour packages include

Every Sikar package is private. The Khatu Shyam Ji temple tour arranges a private guide and vehicle from Jaipur or Delhi, with the visit timed to darshan hours and fair-season crowds; a night's stay, if you want one, goes into the same written quote. The 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package lists a private car and driver for the full route and help with darshan queues where applicable. Its hotel for the night, most meals, donations and special darshan tickets are not included, so the specialist adds a hotel near the temple or in Sikar to your written quote.

How to choose your Sikar tour package

Choose the Khatu Shyam Ji temple tour if you are staying in Jaipur, or driving between Jaipur and Delhi, and want one unhurried day with a guide. Choose the 2 Days Khatu Shyamji Tour Package if you are starting in Delhi or want Salasar Balaji as well; it suits pilgrims short on time who want both temples in one trip. A tailor-made trip suits better if you want a quiet darshan away from the fair and Ekadashi, or Khatu with Jaipur's forts, Shekhawati's havelis or a longer Rajasthan tour.
