Dabolim or Mopa: which Goa airport suits my trip?
Choose by where you stay first. Manohar International at Mopa, in the north of the state, is nearer most of the northern beaches; Dabolim, near Vasco da Gama and about 30 km from Panaji, is nearer South Goa. Each takes domestic and international flights, so check which one your ticket uses before planning the first transfer. A tailor-made trip can also fly in at one and out of the other, to save a long drive on your last day.
Should we split our time between North and South Goa?
With four nights or more, yes. The north is the busier coast, with the shacks, markets and nightlife of Calangute, Baga and Anjuna; the south has long, quieter beaches such as Agonda and Varca, and resorts around Majorda. The Goa Beach Escape gives two nights to each and goes inland to Old Goa and Panaji on the day it moves you south. With three nights or fewer, stay on one coast and spend the time on the sand.
What is Goa like between June and September?
Wet and green. The south-west monsoon brings around 90 per cent of Goa's yearly rain, and July, the wettest month, gets close to a metre of it, according to Goa Tourism. Many shacks close, the sea turns rough and most water sports stop, so it is the wrong season for a beach-focused trip like the Goa Beach Escape. Some travellers come anyway, for the green countryside and the celebrations that welcome the rains.
Can we see Old Goa's churches on a beach holiday?
Yes, in a half-day. Old Goa's churches and convents date from the 16th and 17th centuries and include Se Cathedral and the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which holds the remains of St Francis Xavier. They are still places of worship, so dress as for a church service. The Goa Beach Escape includes a guided half-day here with Panaji's Latin Quarter; on the Goa honeymoon it can be an excursion with your private guide. More in our Old Goa guide.
Can we time a trip for Goa's Carnival?
Yes. Carnival usually runs for four days before Lent, so it falls in February or March, depending on the date of Easter. Panaji holds the main parade, and towns such as Margao, Vasco da Gama and Mapusa have their own. It comes in the dry season, so it fits easily into a beach stay. Tell us your dates and we will check that year's programme before we send your quote. Our Panjim guide covers the city.
Should we book Christmas and New Year in Goa far ahead?
Yes. Goa Tourism calls December and the New Year the peak, when the state is packed, and advises booking flights well in advance for the busy season. If those dates are fixed, start planning early; if they are flexible, mid-January to March keeps the dry weather with fewer crowds. Nothing is paid to start planning: we send a written quote first, and you decide from there.
How do we get around Goa?
By road. Goa Tourism lists buses, white tourist taxis, motorcycle taxis known as pilots, and hired scooters, and advises fixing a taxi fare before you set off. Distances add up: Calangute is about 15 km from Panaji and Palolem more than 70 km, so crossing to the other coast takes real driving time. Our packages put a private car and driver where you need one, so there is no fare to agree on the spot.
About Goa Tour Packages
Our private Goa trips are for couples and friends who want the beaches without haggling over taxis: the Goa Beach Escape across North and South Goa with a guided half-day in Old Goa, a Goa honeymoon paced around the sea, and days on the busy northern beaches. Each is tailor-made around your dates, budget and group, and confirmed with a written quote before you pay anything.

Why go to Goa
Goa is India's smallest state: about 105 km of Arabian Sea coast between Maharashtra, across the Terekhol river to the north, and Karnataka to the south. It was a Portuguese colony until 19 December 1961, and its churches, old mansions and food still show it. The churches and convents of Old Goa, among them the Basilica of Bom Jesus with the remains of St Francis Xavier, have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The coast has two moods: the busy beach belt of North Goa, from Candolim and Calangute to Anjuna and Vagator, and the longer, quieter sands of South Goa around Colva, Agonda and Palolem. Our Goa travel guide covers the whole state.
How many days to give Goa
Four nights covers both coasts without rushing. The Goa Beach Escape, five days in all, spends two nights in North Goa and two in South Goa, with a guided half-day at Old Goa's churches and Panaji's Latin Quarter on the day you move south. A Goa honeymoon usually runs three to five days at the end of a longer honeymoon, or longer on its own. With a day or two to spare, the Goa north beaches tour strings two or three northern beaches together.
When to go
October to March is the season. Goa Tourism describes clear skies and normal sea conditions, with the peak in December and over the New Year, when the state is packed and flights fill early. April and May are hot and humid, with days that can reach about 36°C. The monsoon normally arrives in the first week of June and lasts until late September, bringing around 90 per cent of the year's rain; many beach shacks close and the sea turns rough. Carnival falls in February or March, before Lent. Month by month: our best time to visit Goa guide.
How to reach Goa
Goa has two airports, each with domestic and international flights. Dabolim (GOI), near Vasco da Gama and about 30 km from Panaji, is a civil enclave on the Navy's INS Hansa air base. Manohar International (GOX), at Mopa in the north, was inaugurated on 11 December 2022 and has taken commercial flights since 5 January 2023; it is the nearer choice for most northern beaches. By rail, Konkan Railway trains from Mumbai stop at Thivim, Karmali and Madgaon (Margao), the main station in the south, and take roughly 8 to 12 hours by Goa Tourism's count.
What our Goa tour packages include
Every package is private; what it covers differs, as each package lists. The Goa Beach Escape includes hotels on both coasts as confirmed at enquiry, daily breakfast, a private car and driver for sightseeing and the move south, and the guided half-day in Old Goa and Panaji. The Goa north beaches tour gives you a vehicle and driver for the day or your whole north-coast stay, with a guide who knows which beaches and shacks suit your pace. The Goa honeymoon covers a private guide and vehicle for excursions; the hotel is booked separately. Flights and water sports are extra.
How to choose your Goa tour package
A first visit as a couple or with friends, wanting a real beach break with one culture day rather than a sightseeing tour: the Goa Beach Escape. Honeymooners who want to unwind rather than sightsee, or to end a longer, busier honeymoon on the coast: the Goa honeymoon, which pairs well with Rajasthan or Kerala earlier in the trip. Energy rather than solitude, with shacks, markets and nightlife: the Goa north beaches tour, with more on our North Goa page. Like all our Goa holiday packages, each is tailor-made, so lengths, hotels and coasts change to suit you.
