Which days are the Anjuna flea market and the night markets?
Anjuna's flea market runs on Wednesdays, from about 10 am to about 4 pm, along the beach. Mapusa's market is on Fridays, Arambol's flea market sets up on the sand at sunset on Saturdays, and the Saturday night markets are at Baga and Arpora. These are the Goa Tourism Development Corporation's listings, and we confirm them for your dates. On the Goa Beach Escape, the days your two northern nights fall on decide which market you can reach.
Is it safe to swim at Calangute, Baga and Anjuna?
Usually, with care. Goa's government says lifeguards are posted on the popular beaches, and warns that at Calangute the seabed drops suddenly and the waves rise high. Swim where the lifeguards are, follow their flags and instructions, and stay out of the sea from June to September, when it is rough. Not every stretch is patrolled, which is one reason the Goa north beaches tour comes with a guide who knows which beaches suit your pace.
Where in North Goa is quieter?
North of Chapora. Morjim, where Olive Ridley turtles come ashore to nest, and Arambol, a beach you walk down to rather than drive onto, lie well away from the hotel strip between Calangute and Baga. Vagator, the crescent bay under Chapora Fort, is secluded by day but becomes a party venue at night in season. A tailor-made stay can base you in the quiet north and drive you to Baga or Anjuna for an evening out.
Can I visit Fort Aguada and Chapora Fort?
Yes, and each fits into a beach day by car. Fort Aguada, an early 17th-century Portuguese fort, stands on the headland at Sinquerim, at the southern end of the north coast; from Miramar, Panaji's city beach, you can see it across the Mandovi. Chapora Fort crowns the hill above Vagator's bay, at the northern end of the busy strip. Ask for either when you plan the Goa north beaches tour.
What is there to do in North Goa besides nightlife?
Plenty. Walk the firm sand that runs from Sinquerim north towards Baga, browse the Wednesday and Saturday markets, climb to the forts at Aguada and Chapora, and eat seafood at a beach shack. Panaji's Latin Quarter and the churches of Old Goa are a short drive inland. The nightlife is there when you want it, in Baga's bars and the beach parties around Anjuna and Vagator, and easy to skip when you do not.
Is the Goa north beaches tour a day trip or a stay?
Either. It can be one day with a car, driver and guide, stringing two or three beaches together, such as the busy Calangute and Baga stretch and secluded Vagator; or the same car and guide can stay with you across several nights in the north. Tell us how much nightlife and how much quiet you want, and we shape the days around it before quoting.
How far are Panaji and Old Goa from a North Goa hotel?
Close enough for a half-day. Calangute is about 15 km from Panaji, Anjuna about 18 km and Vagator about 22 km, and Old Goa's churches stand a short drive east of the capital along the Mandovi. The Goa Beach Escape takes them in on the day it moves you south, with a guided half-day in Old Goa and Panaji's Latin Quarter. Our Old Goa and Panjim guides have more.

Why go to North Goa
North Goa is one of the state's two districts, with Panaji as its headquarters, but to most visitors it means the coast north of the Mandovi river. Goa's government describes a 30 km run of sand from Fort Aguada through Sinquerim, Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator to Chapora. Calangute alone is about 7 km of beach, 15 km from Panaji, and hotels and guesthouses run almost unbroken from there to Baga; Anjuna, made famous by the hippie travellers of the sixties and early seventies, still holds its Wednesday flea market. Further north, Morjim, where Olive Ridley turtles nest, and Arambol stand apart from the hotel strip. Our North Goa travel guide has more.
How many days to give North Goa
Two nights is enough for the main beaches and a market day. The Goa Beach Escape gives North Goa its first two nights, around Baga and Anjuna, before an inland day at Old Goa and Panaji and two nights on South Goa's quieter sands. The Goa north beaches tour can be a single day that strings two or three beaches together, or a car, driver and guide for every day of a longer stay in the north. Plan your nights around the market you most want to see.
When to go
The north follows Goa's dry season, October to March, when skies are clear and sea conditions normal. The peak runs from December through the New Year, when Calangute and Baga are packed; late January to March keeps the dry weather without the holiday crush. April and May are hot, and from June to September many shacks shut and the sea is too rough to swim. Market days set the rhythm of the week, so check them against your nights. How to reach North Goa
Goa's newer airport, Manohar International at Mopa, lies on the north side of the state with these beaches; Dabolim is south of Panaji, near Vasco da Gama. Mopa's own operator names Dabolim, about 35 km away, as the nearest airport for Sinquerim at the strip's southern end, so the better airport depends on your hotel. By rail, Thivim is the Konkan Railway station for the north coast, about 21 km from Sinquerim. The Mopa airport's own buses run to Calangute by way of Mapusa, and to Thivim station; on our trips, your car and driver cover the beach days.
What our North Goa tour packages include
The Goa north beaches tour comes with a private vehicle and driver, for one day or every day you spend on the north coast, plus a guide who matches beaches and shacks to your pace. Water sports, shack meals unless arranged, flea-market shopping, flights, visa fees and travel insurance are extra. On the Goa Beach Escape, your two northern nights come with a hotel confirmed at enquiry and daily breakfast; the package then adds a private car and driver for the move south and its sightseeing, the guided half-day in Old Goa and Panaji, and two nights in South Goa.
How to choose your North Goa tour package
Choose the Goa north beaches tour if the north is the point of your trip: it suits travellers who want energy rather than solitude, and bends to your pace, from one day of beach-hopping to a car and guide for every day you stay. Choose the Goa Beach Escape for a first trip to Goa that uses the north as the lively start of five days and ends on South Goa's quieter sands. For a quiet base in Arambol or Morjim with evenings in Baga, or the north joined to a trip elsewhere in India, ask for a tailor-made plan.
