Seven days suits one region done well; ten to twelve days suits the Golden Triangle plus one contrasting region; fourteen to eighteen days suits two full regions at an unhurried pace; three weeks or more starts to feel like the country it actually is. Below are sample shapes for each length.

- Golden Triangle plus Kerala — icons and palaces, then backwaters and Ayurveda.
- Rajasthan plus Goa — deserts and forts, then beach time to unwind.
- North plus South India — the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan, then Tamil Nadu's temples and Hampi's ruins.
This is where India starts to feel like the country it actually is: two full regions at an unhurried pace, with room for a Varanasi or Rishikesh add-on, or a Himalayan leg if the season allows. It's also where a good local operator earns their keep, sequencing flights, drives and rest days so the trip doesn't turn into a checklist.
How many days should an India itinerary be?
Ten days minimum for a first trip; two to three weeks lets you go deeper into two regions rather than skim several.
What's a good seven-day India itinerary?
One region done properly — Rajasthan, Kerala, or the Golden Triangle with a slower pace — rather than trying to combine several.
Can I see North and South India in one trip?
Yes, if you have three weeks or more; on a shorter trip, pick one and save the other for next time.
