India in March: Weather, Where to Go, and What to Avoid

• Golden Triangle and Rajasthan — comfortable early in the month, warming quickly by the end of it.
• Hill stations (Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand) — beginning to wake up after winter, though still cool at altitude.
• Kerala and South India — warm and increasingly humid.
• Kashmir — still cold, with the spring thaw beginning; Ladakh remains largely closed.

Early March is still a good window for the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan. Hill towns start to make more sense as the month goes on, as an escape from the rising heat on the plains.

• Holi — India's festival of colour, and the biggest event of the month (date varies with the lunar calendar, usually falling in March).

• Booking a Golden Triangle or Rajasthan trip for late March expecting January-like cool mornings — the heat builds fast after Holi.
• Travelling with white or pale clothing during Holi if you don't want it colourfully ruined — plan for that deliberately, or steer clear of the crowds if you would rather not take part.
