Delhi Tour Packages

Two to three days covers Old and New Delhi at an easy pace. Most travellers use Delhi as the start, and sometimes the end, of a wider trip, so our packages give it one to three nights: the Golden Triangle Tour — 6 days spends a night at each end, and the ten-day Golden Temple tour three. Every trip is tailor-made, so extra Delhi days can be added before or after the route.

October to March, when the weather is at its most comfortable for sightseeing. Within that season, November to January can bring spells of very poor air and dense morning fog that may delay flights and trains, so leave some slack in winter plans. April to June is very hot, with heatwaves, and the monsoon brings humid, rainy weeks from about late June to September.

The Red Fort is closed on Mondays, and so is Swaminarayan Akshardham. Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar open every day from sunrise, so a Monday can still be a full sightseeing day if it is planned around them. The Red Fort also closes to visitors for several weeks before Independence Day on 15 August each year. In Agra, the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.

Flights arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The main long-distance railway stations are New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Old Delhi (Delhi Junction) and Anand Vihar Terminal, in different parts of the city, so check which one your ticket names. The Gatimaan Express to Agra leaves from Hazrat Nizamuddin. On our packages, your private car and driver handle the transfers each package lists.

Agra is about 200 km from Delhi, under two hours by fast train or roughly three to five hours by road; Jaipur is about 260 km by road. Day trips are possible but long. Our dated Golden Triangle itineraries stay a night in Agra so you can reach the Taj Mahal at sunrise. If a day is all you have, our Agra tour packages and Jaipur tour packages include day trips from Delhi.

It can. From about November to January, calm, cold weather traps pollution over Delhi, and the Commission for Air Quality Management brings in graded restrictions as air quality worsens, the strictest when it turns severe. Dense fog on winter mornings can delay flights and trains. If you have a respiratory condition, ask your doctor before a winter trip. The North India Classic Tour — 14 days builds a little slack into its connecting days for this reason.

Yes, with the usual big-city precautions: use the transport arranged for you or official taxis, agree any fare before you set off, keep valuables close in crowded markets such as Chandni Chowk, and take extra care after dark. On our packages a private car and driver cover the road legs, a local guide shows you the city, and support is available 24/7 during the trip.

Cover shoulders and knees, and wear shoes you can slip off easily, since footwear comes off at most places of worship. Swaminarayan Akshardham publishes a strict dress code: shoulders, chest, back and upper arms covered, and nothing above the knee. A light scarf is useful wherever a head covering is asked for. Your guide will tell you what each site expects before you go in.
