About Dalhousie

Dalhousie, named after a former British governor-general, is a colonial-era hill station spread across five hills in Himachal Pradesh, generally quieter and less commercial than Shimla or Manali. Pine-forested walks, colonial-era churches and views toward the Dhauladhar range are the main draw, along with the nearby meadow of Khajjiar, sometimes called Mini Switzerland.

  • Khajjiar

A saucer-shaped meadow a short drive from Dalhousie, popular for its open green in a forested setting.

  • St. John's Church

    A colonial-era church typical of Dalhousie's British-era architecture.

  • Panchpula

A wooded walking area with a small stream, popular for an easy stroll.

Best time to visit, and how many days

April to June and September to November suit Dalhousie well; winter brings snow and its own quieter appeal. Two days is enough for the town's walks and a trip out to Khajjiar; it is often combined with Dharamshala or Amritsar given its position in the state's west.
