What can you do in Ayodhya in the evening?
Walk along Ram ki Paidi when the ghats are floodlit and stay for the riverside aarti. With a pass, attend the Ram Mandir's Shayan Aarti, held at night. In the Navratri weeks of autumn and at Ram Navami, look out for Ramlila performances around the town.
What should you buy in Ayodhya?
Most shopping here is for worship. The street into town sells idols with clothes and jewellery for them, haldi, kumkum and sandalwood, and UP Tourism notes Ayodhya's marble statues of the gods, bangles and copper vessels. Laddoos are the sweet to take home.
Which festivals are celebrated in Ayodhya?
Ram Navami in March or April and Deepotsav on the eve of Diwali draw the biggest crowds. UP Tourism's calendar adds the Rathyatra (June–July), the Shravan Jhula Mela (July–August), the Parikrama Mela and Saryu Snan (October–November), Ram Vivah (November) and the Ramayan Mela (December–January).
What is Ayodhya famous for?
Revered as Ram's birthplace and one of the seven holiest towns of Hinduism, Ayodhya is now best known for the Ram Mandir, consecrated on 22 January 2024. Hanuman Garhi, Kanak Bhawan, Deepotsav and the Ramlila add to its fame, and Jains honour it as the birthplace of five Tirthankaras.
About Ayodhya Tours & Experiences
The main things to do in Ayodhya are darshan at the Ram Mandir, with a pass for one of its aartis, Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan, and an evening at Ram ki Paidi on the Saryu, floodlit after dark. Our Ayodhya Ram Mandir tour plans a private day around darshan; a six-day circuit adds Varanasi, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot.

Things to do in Ayodhya
Darshan and aarti at the Ram Mandir
The temple trust runs timed darshan slots through the day and three aartis visitors can attend, before dawn, in the early morning and at night, with passes reserved free on its website. Expect a security check, carry little and dress modestly; our tour confirms the current timings and rules before you go.
Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan
Hanuman Garhi, a fort-shaped temple in the middle of town, is where Hanuman is believed to have lived to guard Ayodhya. Kanak Bhawan is held to be the palace Kaikeyi gave Sita after her marriage, and our tour's page notes its ornate interior.
An evening on the Saryu
Pilgrims bathe from Ram ki Paidi, a run of ghats along the Saryu that is floodlit at night. Our Ram Mandir tour pairs the temple with these ghats and their evening aarti.
Walk a parikrama
Ayodhya has three pilgrim circuits. The Antargrahi takes a day, from a dip in the Saryu past Sita Kund and Mani Parvat to Kanak Bhawan; the Panchkoshi runs 16 km from Chakratirth; and the Chaturdashkoshi covers 45 km in a single day on Akshay Navami.
See the Ramlila and Deepotsav
Ayodhya is known for its mandali Ramlila of dialogue, song and kathak on a raised stage, staged in the Navratri nights before Dussehra. On the eve of Diwali, Deepotsav lights lakhs of earthen lamps.
Three quieter stops
Tradition credits Ram's son Kush with founding the Nageshwarnath temple; Guptar Ghat lies west of town on the river; and Nandigram, 18 km to the south, is linked with Bharat's years keeping Ram's sandals.
Choosing between our tours and experiences
Our Ayodhya trips, both private tour packages, also appear on our Ayodhya tour packages page. Choose the Ayodhya Ram Mandir tour when Ayodhya is the purpose: a guide and car for the temples and ghats, planned around darshan. Choose the 6 Days Varanasi Ayodhya Tour with Prayagraj Chitrakoot for the pilgrim circuit by road, with one night here and darshan on arrival, if timings allow, and next morning.
When to go for these
UP Tourism advises October to March; summer can reach 47°C and winter falls to about 10°C. Crowds peak at Ram Navami in March or April, at Deepotsav, and at the Parikrama Mela and Saryu Snan in October and November.
Planning tips
Shoes come off before temple premises, and shoulders and knees should be covered. The sights and their stories are in our Ayodhya travel guide, and Ram Navami has its own festival guide.
