Can non-Hindus enter the Ramanathaswamy and Meenakshi temples?

In most cases yes, at least into the outer areas, and both temples welcome visitors of all faiths who observe the dress code and etiquette. Some inner sanctum areas may have restrictions checked on the day.

What is the ritual bathing tradition at Rameswaram?

The Ramanathaswamy Temple has a well-known tradition of pilgrims bathing at a sequence of temple wells as an act of purification. It is optional for visitors and best done with a guide who can explain the process.

What is the best time to visit this temple trail?

November to March, when it is warm and largely dry. The coast around Rameswaram can see rain from the northeast monsoon roughly October to December, and April to June is intensely hot.

Rameswaram and Madurai sit at the southern end of Tamil Nadu's temple trail, and together they make one of South India's most rewarding pilgrimage routes. The Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram, on an island town linked to the mainland by causeway and the Pamban Bridge, is one of the char dham of Hindu pilgrimage tradition and one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva, known especially for its long pillared corridors, among the longest of any Hindu temple. Madurai's Meenakshi Amman Temple, dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi and her consort Sundareswarar (a form of Shiva), is instantly recognisable for its towering, densely carved and brightly painted gopuram gateway towers and is one of the largest temple complexes in India.
