Bandhavgarh National Park Travel Guide

Bandhavgarh, in Madhya Pradesh, has one of the highest tiger densities of any Indian reserve, which makes it a consistently strong choice for a first tiger safari. An ancient hilltop fort sits inside the park boundary, adding a heritage layer to what is otherwise a dense forest and grassland landscape.

Safaris run by jeep at set morning and afternoon slots across several zones, with permits allocated in advance. Because of Bandhavgarh's tiger density, sightings here are relatively frequent compared with many other Indian reserves, though as with any wildlife safari, nothing is ever guaranteed on a single drive.

The park is typically open October to June and closes through the monsoon. Hotter months toward the end of the season, April to June, often bring animals to water sources and can improve sightings, at the cost of higher daytime temperatures. Two to three days, spanning multiple safaris, gives a considerably better chance of a sighting than a single visit.
